code 336 in a 2006- runs rough 1000 miles from home

Just got a call from a buddy who is returning to NC from Utah and is ~100 miles from Little Rock, AR.

It started sputtering and threw a code 336 which i see is a Crank position sensor. it's still running but they're babying it. should this vfix be a simple replacement of the sensor or is there something else that could be causing this?
