okay I give up am I supposed to take the red sock like piece off and clean that and then oil it again ? someone please help drove through a bug storm today and the thing is covered in dead bugs

 

The sock is what I am thinking of, it is the "prefilter" and should have caught most of the bugs. You should be able to just remove that and wash it without having to wash and re-oil the filter. If you need to clean the filter you can buy the clkeaning kit for AFE fitlers, which comes with cleanign solvent and oil.
