I have a 98 3500 cummins and just yesterday the check engine light came on. Still runs ok but how do you check to see what code it might be? I tried turning the key on and off but I may not be doing it correctly. How many times and do you leave it on and where can I find out what the code numbers mean?


ps just went to use truck and truck seems to hesitate and then rev up and then return to normal

anybody got any ideas??????????

Most of the major parts houses have readers that will scan your codes for free. I don't know where you are, but Auto Zone is the quickest and easiest aroud here.

 

The only years the key off/on code reading method doesn't work are '98 &'99
