Re:check engine light

I think this is the procedure for retrieving the code.<br><br>Turn the key to the on position ( NOT Start) and off 3 times and finishing in the on position. Watch the Check Engine lite and write down its flash codes. It will flash a number of times, pause then flash another bunch of times. The flashes will be in groups of 2, like 1 - 2 or 5 - 5. After you have these codes, come back with the number and we can chack the manual to see what code you picked up.<br><br>-

That procedure doesn't work on the 99's I believe.<br><br>Try going to Autozone, they can read the codes.<br><br>good luck<br><br>phox

Re:check engine light

Usually, if the CPS is faulty, the truck will surge and run erratically. You may have a dirty connection on the CPS harness causing the fault. If you starting getting unstable operation, get it somewhere quick. The CPS is about $40 to replace, but when it starts dying it goes fast.

Re:check engine light

Smoke Dog...what exactly is running irratically, and surging? Mine may be doing this but not sure. When I get up to 60 or 65 it kind of surges till 70, then it doesn't go any faster. sometimes I can go a little faster (maybe 5mph) and sometimes slower. Low speed, is great, good power, only top end. and what does the CPS do exactly? What will happen if this fails? thanks -Noobie CWBRONC
