cant turn the ignition key
cant turn the ignition key
Today I noticed this the first time ,i tried to start my truck, its an ,03 Dodge Cummins.
I could not tun the key, after a little in and out and trying to turn it suddenly turns .
I tried it after I shut it down ,and it took 5 minets to turn the key.
I think I need a new ignition key switch.
Anybody had this before?
Does anybody have a partnumber for that?
Can I order a new switch with the vin number from my car ,so I can keep my own key?
thanks sterling

Are you sure the steering wasn't locked?? Sometimes you have to turn the steering wheel a little to allow the key to turn... Just and idea
Wow dodgezilla had to jump right there infront of me

us G56 dudes are pretty quick with our hands!
Sometimes if you shut down with the wheel turned some it will kind of jam up when you try to turn the key to start the truck. You say you did have to turn the wheel to finally get the key to turn. Have you had any problems with it since??

So unless you can order a new cylinder that takes the same key I'd say it's impossible to re-key the cylinder.
BTW, last cylinder I replaced stuck so you couldn't turn the engine off. Had to stall it in gear and disconnect the batteries.
cilinder
I spoke with a Dodge dealer in Ft Lauderdale FL
The partsguy told me he need the vin nr ,so he could made the cilinder fit my keys.
I paid 115 $ for the cilinder and 45 $ for programming the cilinder ???
I hope he is right ,and when the cilinder is here (6000 miles ) from FL
it will talk with my keys.
anybody knows how this works ,and if the parts guy is right ?
thanks sterling
