I had it in to the dealer a while ago for a P0216...."Can't reproduce the problem" they said.....

Now that it's out of warranty by 6 months, I called them again. They told me to bring the bill in, and they'd see what the Chrysler rep would do 4 me.

Still only ~63,000 miles on it right now.

We'll see.

Thanks for all the help guys.

Good Luck - nothing ruins a vacation like vehicle problems.

FYI, I have heard good things about the dealer in Cochrane (that is if you cant find somewhere else to do it). LLet me know if you need any phone numbers and I can look them up for you.

You proably dont have AMA?....Maybe you could call up the Alberta Motor Association and buy a membership so you can get a cheap tow. I believe they will tow around 100 kms or so. Would at least get your truck to the repair place for less $$. Might be worth a phone call to investigate.

Another place to call would be GCL Diesel:

G C L Fuel Systems Inc

You won't have any problems getting it installed in Cochrane. It's their busy times so I would call ahead for a service time and they will squeeze you in.

Ask for Karen in service when you call, tell her Jeff Trithart sent you. The parts department stocks at least one VP at all times.

Last time they did mine on warranty, it was 3 hours in and out the door.

Like Dr.Evil said, if you don't have AMA, get it. Here's the number 1-800-222-6400. It's a $100 for an AMA Plus membership, but they will tow you 160 km with it. And yes, you can buy a membership and get towed immediately. Trust me, you won't get towed back to Cochrane for $100!

Hope it helps.

I had a VP do the same thing. I drove it for almost 75K miles b4 I replaced it. Dead pedal syndrome.... I found that when the pedal went dead, cycle key off/on while driving and the VP would reset itself and work fine for 3-400 miles. Good Luck, and how the heck can you have only driven your truck 63K miles in 5 years???? You are gonna have a sweet re-sale value on your truck when you decide to upgrade.....HMMMMM maybe give me a call b4 you decide to sell....I LIKE 02's wayyyyy better than the newer ones....LOLOL

Good Luck!!

The only problem with that is that he COULD find himself stranded on the side of the highway .

Update:

Got a new VP44 for $2011.80 installed. Millers Performance Trucks in the Crowsnest Pass did the job. A few issues with ordering the correct VP44, but after he got it from Lethbridge, it was on in a couple of hours. Truck runs like a top now. I did manage to drive mine all the way to the Crowsnest Pass without it dying. Truck gave me dead pedal a few times, but no big deal. Dad follwed me in his 250,000 Km Ford 7.3 in case mine died (being pulled by a Ferd = ), thankfully, it made it all the way.

I started a file with DC customer relations, and the rep told me there's a good chance they'll pay 30 - 50% of the bill as a "good will" gesture due to the fact that I have had it in for that issue and it wasn't repaired when it was under warranty.

I'll keep you updated. They say three weeks or so to find out what they'll pay. I think it's great that they are even considering it, when they have every right to deny me outright as I am 7 months past warranty (exp Dec 2006).

I really appreciate all of the help and suggestions, especially that from you Albertans with ph numbers and addresses. Even though I couldn't get to a computer to read it, the fact that you took the time was a nice gesture.
