a/c compressor stuck
a/c compressor stuck
Have a 2003 2500 dodge ram Cummins, the a/c compressor stuck and caused the belt to burn up and break. I replaced the compressor and belt and had an mechanic pumped the system down and put back in running a full check on it. Everything checked out great. No metal at all. Drove it about 190 miles over 2 weeks. Then drove 1700 miles stopped after 1000 miles and laid over in hotel the drove the rest home with no problems until we got home and the new compressor locked up again causing the belt to break again. What is causing this problem???
From what I've seen, It's pretty rare to shred a compressor and not have any debris. My guess would be that either there really was debris or the proper amount of oil did not get added.
And.....
Was the dryer replaced? If the answer is NO then step one was ignored. If you ever open an auto ac, you replace the dryer. That where a good amount of the trash collects, and surprising alot of moisture will get into the system when open. If it's too much, the dryer wont absorb it all. Also the orfice tube is inside of on the ac lines. It is a very small hole. One little spec and it's clogged. That should also have been replaced.
To take things further, these trucks are known for leaking evaporator coils inside the dash. I would never go as far as you did without a new evap and you have to dig out the heater core to get the evap out so, a heater core should have been done too.
