Brake Bleeding
Brake Bleeding
So I had a brake line leaking on my truck that I didn't know about. Ran it out of brake fluid, found the culprit and I am going out to get the lines to replace the bad part. I assume since I ran it out of brake fluid that I need to bleed all four wheels, is there anything else special I need to know about before bleeding this thing?
If you don't have one, I'd highly recommend picking up one of the Mity-Vac hand vacuum pumps.
They aren't cheap, but once I bought one and used it, I wish I had gotten one a long time ago...
If you use vacuum to bleed, you may need to put some teflon tape around the bleeder threads (not on the seat on the end) so you suck air and fluid out of the system instead of drawing air through the bleeder theads.

Advocate of getting the ban button used on him...

+1 on this!! I love my Mity-Vac. Just make sure to start at the rear passenger side and then driver side the go front passenger then fron driver to complete it. All this is doing is starting from the farthest point and working to the nearest point of the matser cylinder.
If you do it the old way of pumping the pedal make sure to not go all the way to floor. Not too sure about these masters but "Sometimes" you can flip the cups inside and you will never get a good firm pedal. I always try to go 3/4 the way down and then release while pumping.
Another thing you can do if you have time is fill the resivor FULL and open all four bleeders and let it gravity bleed for a few minuets and then close them and start the final bleeding from the rear passenger... yada yada yada

if you ran out of fluid you should pull the master cylinder out and bench bleed it and then brake all 4 wheels startign from furthest to closest...its not very likely that you will get all of the air out of the master cylinder by bleeding the lines ..you need to bleed it first on its own
