Bolt that holds front caliper, what is it?
I did a search and could find the answer so:
What is the name of the bolt that hold the front disc brake caliper on? Looks like it has about 12 points on it. And where can I get a socket for it? The local auto parts stores were no help.
Of course none of my sockets would fit it yesterday so the calipers never came off to get the pads replaced.
2001 Dodge Ram 2500
Thanks for the help!

I dont know the correct size , but maybe its metric? as far as the 12 points we allways called them aircraft bolts. It allows for more surface area of contact between the tool when tightening/loosening

Have you worked on your American made Cummins? The only non-metric bolts I have found on mine are on the battery cables.

Cummins are not produced in Brazil. The 24 V was produced in Indiana and the new common rail is produced in Jamestown NY.

I know that at least the lug nuts aren't metric either.....
Plus, mixing SAE and metric bolts is just plain stupid.
I know when I go to work on my dirt bike I only need the metric tools.
Turns out the calipers were frozen and only pushing on the inside of the rotor = big heat and stuck bolts.
Inside pads measured at 2/32nds, outside pads were almost full.
I have head that this is a fairly common problem with these trucks. Why can't Dodge fix this problem?

My truck is a mix of metric, SAE, AND torx bits. I hate it. I'll be using an SAE to take something apart, go to remove another bolt and find it's either metric or torx. >

Re:Bolt that holds front caliper, what is it?
I just replaced my front brakes on a 2000. The bolts took a #40 torx socket. Vise-Grip works to. I don't recommend it though. Good luck!!
