on board factory brake controler
There is no on board controller
There is wiring on board but to enable it you need to get a brake controller and attach it to the onbaord plug under the dash near the fuse panel. New they cane with the pigtail to attach to the plug and controller. Again there is no onboard controller, just the wiring all the way back to the trailer plug.
controler brake
ok according to dodge info line, they are saying some hd units did come with onboard controlers..... and should have a read-out on dash.... I do not see a blue wire under dash though....

digital or ?
if I went and bought one, for this 01 will it only take the digital ...if it does not have a controler on it.... it was used and the prevous owner was a fool at best.... when they went to sell/trade in they cliped wires to the alarm and when i had the local shop put new alarm and remote start [great for cold days and starting the truck from inside the house and truck in the barn out back...range 1500 ft.] but also my door locks [elec't] don't work ... there is 2 sylonoids that 1 is not workingbut anyway ........... about the controler.... will this only use the digital style?

Mine is a loaded 04.5, has the trailer package, and I have a controller that I bought on Ebay and threw on the shelf about 9 monthes ago. I have towed a fairly large trailer without it, and it would probably be good legality wise to have the unit installed.

BINGO! found it
yes they are pre wired!!! the post owner of this truck took the controler or..... it was not put in..but there is on the dodge rams a blue plug under the dash... this is where you plug one in at... ok I found this one on e bay but looking localy too.... here is the link http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...MakeTrack=true
Dodge originally, if your truck was bought new, put a wiring harness that attached to the under dash plug on your truck either in the glove box or under the storage area under your rear seat if the truck had the camper package. If bought used maybe the prior owner used it and removed it. I would think that Dodge should have the harness available from the parts department. Also, I just purchased a Prodigy controller and see that they offer the dodge, chevy and ford factory type plug ins for a price. Dont't knopw what you mean about only a digital controller, but I would think that any type of modern brake controller should/would work.
