Dont know , have not measured a thing yet .thats on the list for tomarrow.<br> Im thinkin the crank is not very good because hanging there in the air gave it a bop with the hammer and it dose not sound crisp ( might have a break in it).<br> Chrisler or cummins ought to be paying for this becaus it appears it was assy. wrong.<br> Tomarow is an other day I'll see what happens.......

 

It will not sound crisp until you remove it. If you hit it with a hammer when it is installed it will probably sound dead.<br>Sure hope for your sake that Cummins or Dodge pay for a new short block. Or better still, a long block. Push them for a long block.

 

I do have it hanging in the air. never had a crank sound like a quire be fore

 

If you have to pay for the engine overhaul and are going to use that crankshaft then suggest you get it magnafluxed before wasting your money on getting it machined.

 

You bet it will be xrayed or somthing ,cause it's had no bng at the end for awhile {by the flywheel] just been floping around in the air back there. I suspect that was most of the vibration.

sir.so far just more bad news.. cyl 2,3,4,5 are cracked between the valves and injectors [in the head of course]. that comes as a surprise as the compression was ok. one valve seat cracked.
no.7 main bng. was in bad shape its is barely salvageable the rockwell hardness scale is way low down to 4.5 if i rember right . B and G machine says it will work.( please do not give me a hard time if i do not have that rockwell scale right).
I supose the greatest mystery are the oil cooler jets... cummins tech rep says to remember they are only plastic and posabley worm thir way out if things got hot enough !!!!
That make me feel good..... The block is being checked tomarow well see the rest of the bad news. so far its 1000 out of taper 1000 out of round. I know its got to be decked and as far as the line bore that will be done of course be fore the bore. . . :'( &gt;

 

Golly, with all of this, especially needing a head, will it end up being cheaper to get a used engine?

Think Stamey is right. Also check out the price of a long block compared to the price to O/H your engine.

 

cummins said over 5000.00$ for a long block...which at this point I am able to beat price wise ...well ill see..
but it will be stuck togather with the piston coolers in place thats for sure!!!!!!!!! and ceramic tops on the pistons for better or worse.

 

I heard a rumor that Piers Diesel has several new short blocks they may want to sell. I do not know for sure though. You may want to get in touch with them and see.
