Another A/C Related Issue

Well, my A/C bit the pooch day before yesterday. I put truck in shop to get looked at and they came back to me that it was caused by a valve on the compressor. Said valve can not be purchased alone and must be bought with new compressor and it is a dealer item only. My question is, is this valve the same one Duner said bit the pooch in his post, and if so, did the link to Sedco valves turn up anything useful. I sure hate to drop 450 big uns if we can outsource a 35-50 dollar part somewhere.

HELP

Thanks

Gary

Somehow he got his valve to re-seat. They should do it automatically as it is a spring loaded valve. If it blew off though, you need to find out why. Excessive high side pressure is caused by something!

Thanks VZ, I bet my fan clutch (the one I talked about in his thread) has gone bad. I do not recall hearing my "fan roar" like it used to when I start up in the mornings. My system still has pressure in it so the valve must have re-set itself. I wonder why the shop said I needed to replace thing?? I wonder if there is another pressure switch mounted on the back of the compressor which electrically locks out the a/c clutch???

High pressure switch is mounted in the line between the compressor and the condensor according to the FSM. They used to put them on the back of the compressor IIRC it was a one wire switch. Now it would have to be at least 2 wires.
