Almost Walking

Well my 05 started sputtering and stalling, changed the fuel filter and noticed one of the battery ground cables had come off. Checked the codes and here is what I got P0523,P0514,P2509,P0340,P0341. Also did some searching on here about the cam sensor, and checked the wiring by the A/C pump. No noticeable damage unless it's under the tape. Two questions, should I pull all the tape and retape the wires, or replace the sensor, and where is it????

Sorry three questions.

Thanks in advance.

Other then the P0340 Camshaft position lost are related to your battery ground coming off. I would clean and tighten connections on battery clear codes and see if the P0340 comes back. Might be just bad sensor.

Codes can either be cleared by a scanner, or with enough key cycles. IIRC, it is like 50 key cycles to clear codes. If some of the codes go away, and other's come back....concentrate on the codes that reappear first. From the codes that are listed, and the fact that the wiring is o.k. by the a/c compressor, I would guess a failed cam sensor. There are some flash updates to eliminate a few of the other codes. The rationality codes are common when weather is cold and you use the block heater.

Thanks , I'm going to stop at dodge in the morning for a new sensor. The codes don't bother me as much as the truck not running right. If I can fix it with as little dealership input the better, IMHO.

Thanks again

There's a really good chance you won't need the cam sensor. I had that code this winter when the engine started hard. Cleared the code and no problems since. Like mentioned earlier, fix the ground, clear the codes and see what comes back.

I'm not bashing all dealerships, but in my neck of the woods it's hard to find a qualified tech, if I'm going to pay top dollar $100/hr for an apprentice I may as well try to fix it myself. I also understand we all have to learn somewhere.

Well I picked up the sensor and changed it this afternoon, not sure if it fixed it or not. But thanks very much for everyones help.

It could be a cam or crank sensor. The ecm has a real hard time determining one from the other since the signals are so fast and clost to the same information. I'd look over the wires very close to both sensors and if it were me, I'd replace both just to be on the safe side and not get stranded anywhere.

I believe it is located on the front of the engine, next to the harmonic balancer/crank pulley assembly. Maybe driver's side.
