I have a 2001 2500 4wd and the abs & brake warning lights are flashing anybody know what that means. thank you for any help

 

Could be a few things, I'm currently going throu this to, I've checked almost everything I can thing of, my next step is to remove my VSS (speed sensor) So yours could be one, or both of the following, electrical and or mechanical, start with the obvious, your fluids and fuses, then move into the connectors and sensors, when where your brakes last serviced? Hope that helps, if even a litte

 

Flashing at all times or only when you step on the brake pedal?

 

Since M.W. has not been back for over a month... let me ask this.
I got ABS/Brake lights (full time on) on Friday.
Replaced rear ABS/Speed sensor yesterday, as most often cause of this problem, but light have not gone out. Think I caught the problem as sensor was well coated with differential 'mud'.
Read in a thread that the lights won't go out till codes are cleared by a scanner?? True....or did I not fix the problem??

Dunno about your 02, but on 97's at least when the problem is fixed the light goes out.

I would bet 02 is the same way.

 

Had a scan done on a friends Snap-On Scanner. Showed no signal coming from Front Right Sensor.
So, on to next replacement.

During a search, I remember a post from 'Infidel' saying had to clear codes to eliminate ABS light. Not easy to catch him being incorrect....... but perhaps I misunderstood what he was saying. Believe he was talking about his 95??

Check the plugs on the ABS module under the hood first.

I had a loose plug one time that was showing up as a no signal from a front sensor. Also caused full lockup on that wheel under hard braking. You can also pull the plugs and test the sensors with a ohm meter, but I'd have to look up the correct values for a good sensor.

 

That was first thing I did...after checking brake fluid level. No such luck for a simple fix!

I replaced the front sensor last night.
About 30 sec after third start, the ABS & Brake Lights went out!
I guess the computer takes a bit of comvincing before it decides all is OK!

Hey guys, I still have no resolution on my brake/abs deal, nor can I figure out which is the speedometer sensor on the overdrive portion of my tranny even with pictures haha any help would be nice, thanks

Yup! On front top...dead center of pumpkin. Easiest one to replace. 10 min jobs (after you've done it once...)
This is from Field Service Manual......
REMOVAL of Rear ABS/Speed Sensor.....
(1) Raise vehicle on hoist.... optional
(2) Remove brake line mounting nut and remove the brake line from the sensor stud.
(3) Remove mounting stud from the sensor and shield (Fig. 6) .
(4) Remove sensor and shield from differential housing.
(5) Disconnect sensor wire harness and remove sensor.
Sensor just slides up and out...but not easily if it's never been removed before.

............Ok, IDing that seems to be the problem, I've been told that my rig also has a speedometer sensor on the overdrive housing portion on the tranny, so your saying you think my truck has only 1 speed related sensor? I know of the pumpkin sensor.

Good Luck! probably took me an Hour. Most of that ws trying to figure a way to get to it from the front of the axle.
Ended up sitting on the ground behind it, with back of my head against the truck bed. (Best way, IMO .... if you don't have a spare underneath).
