ABS and Brake light on
Re:ABS and Brake light on
More than likely its the ABS sensor has gone out..Had an explorer that did the same thing, and that was the diagnosis. It didn't seem to cause any brake problems, but was told that the ABS system would not work, causing brakes to lock. I replaced it, was pretty expensive as I recall, around 4-500 $$$..
Re:ABS and Brake light on
It has been extremely wet around here for the last several weeks. I'm hoping that one of the sensors just got wet or water in the connection. I hate to go back to the dealer.

Joel,
Check your rearend speed sensor 9 out of 10 times when that happens that is what it is. It is a sensor on the top of the hog head. Take it out and clean it real well and the wires that go to it and pluf it back in should be good if not the part is about 20-40 dollars from the dealer!
thanks
Ian

Yep it's the rear speed sensor. Had mine go out about a year ago. The hardest park about changing it was turning the whole truck while holding the sensor.

I think the sensor was $30 or so from the dealer.

Re:ABS and Brake light on
It was the right front sensor on mine (if yours has 4 wheel ABS). I borrowed a scan tool to find out which one it was. The light would come on and my brakes would still work fine without ABS. However, sometimes I'd hit the brakes hard and the lights would go out and I'd have trouble stopping. I almost rearended someone at a red light. I think the sensor started to work again and it took the ABS a few seconds to re-adjust. Those were a scary few seconds!
Re:ABS and Brake light on
I know the brakes are working but the ABS is not. I hit the brakes on the way home Tuesday on a wet road and all four rears locked up and slid me towards the ditch. That was not fun.
I'm hoping that tool I just ordered will tell me which one is bad if that is the case. The front ones are a real problem to pull from what I can see in the service manual.
