I thought it was 11 quarts (with filter)? Anyway, you'll be fine with 3 gallons. Overfilling a quart on these trucks is harmless, imo.

my owners manual says 12 quarts with filter change. The second gen trucks used 11 quarts I believe.

Dear Tech Support:

My Cummins appears to have struck oil; everytime we change it, there's usually a few extra gallons in there. So far, we've been using this windfall to make oil changes in our other vehicles (Fords), and I'm pleased to report that our maintenance program's workload has decreased.

However, the dealer has become quite difficult to rely on due to warranty issues - apparently, the manufacturer has some kind of "3 engine limit" per vehicle, per year.

What should we do?

I think you have run low on compression. Need to add qt of compression to get pressure back up. Got to stop oil production, must keep oil refiners in business. Find new set of cow magnets for fuel lines also.
