What is the fluid capacity of tranny with a filter change?

I did a search and came up empty, then I looked in owners manual under fluid capacities and there is nothing shown for the automatic. I have a 2001. Everything is running fine, I'm just prepping the truck for a cross country trip. Oil and fuel are all done, just need to finish tranny. The truck won't be towing more than 5-6000 at most. A 3000 pound car, U-Haul 2 axle trailer and some belongings in the short bed. All I want to do is drop the pan, change the filter and refill. How many quarts do I need?

Well, after getting frustrated at my 1500 page service manual, I'm gonna go on memory here. 8 quarts, despite the book saying it's 11?

I want to say it's 6 quarts. You can pour what you've drain into a different container with a known volume to be sure.

You guys are right, usually between 6 and 8 quarts, and no, there is no drain plug on the converter.

Thanks to all that posted, I'll buy 8 qts. I usually empty the old back into containers for recycling, so that will give me a fairly close measurement.
