97 tranny into 99?
97 tranny into 99?
I need some info pretty quick on this one so i decided to put it in here. Will an automatic transmission from a 1997 3500 be compatible with a 1999 2500? I know theyre both 47re's but i was just making sure they mounted up the same, and that all the connections and stuff were compatible. Thanks guys! BTW, they are both 4wd trucks.
Did you ask Dave Goerend yet? He'll probably know a little better than I will.
As far as I know there are some differences in the main case on certain years, but any of them will bolt up to the bell housing regardless of year.
But I do know that they did change some valvebody sensors in 2000 or 2001 and they will not play nice with your PCM in the 97 or the 99.

'97 had a small-case 47RE, as did '98... not sure when dodge switched to the big case 47RE. Both will fit, but all the internals can't be swapped. Sometimes a rebuilt tranny will have a core with a different case size, so Dave should know for sure.
