92 12v won't shut off!

My new to me truck won't shut off with the key! I have to stall it with the tranny in gear. This just started this afternoon and I'm stumped, I've pulled the wires of the pump and still nothing. Any suggestions?

Sounds like the fuel shut off selenoid is bad. might be time for the cable shutdown.

Posted on the HELP last night about this problem again, different thread. Now, I have NO power, almost like my pump isn't turned up at all (full power in all the way). This has all come since I had the problem with the shut off solenoid. Now, I've taken out the plunger, and she purrs like a kitten, er, lion? Still no power, can't feel the seat of the pants when the turbo comes alive like it used to.

The dodge/Cummins ran the Bosch VE pump till 1993 folks. The later truck's shut-down solenoid is totally different.

With increasing the fuel, it eventually gets to the point it rips a plug of rubber from the solenoid's plunger. With that, the engine won't shut down, hence the pull-cable suggestions.

matchew. Don't know what to think of the loss of power with the subsequent repairs. DO be sure to check the AFC boost tube though. It's fairly common for them to crack the line at the banjo fitting when folks are dinking around with the fuel screw and solenoid, . . .. and timing, etc.

I tried a new lift pump tonight...broke the **** input threads (thought it wasn't tightening, then pow, it broke....pot metal). Gotta get another new one in the morning. How do you check the afc tube? I'll have to look at it in the morn also.

It's right there on the top/rear of the injection pump and connects to the side of the engine (intake manifold). These parts ~

Part number five is what you're interested in.

You may need to remove it it to check. It's pretty-much straight forward.

Umm, and don't wring off the banjo bolt when you go to put it all back together (P/N 4).

Replaced the afc tube with 1/8" copper and brass fittings. Still no change. The truck runs good but no smoke or power. I replaced the LP this morning and it idles nice and seams to run fine, but still a HUGE loss of power over what I had. I'm starting to wonder if the rubber from the shut down solenoid might have gotten stuck somewhere, blocking the passage or ????????????

O.K. just shooting in the dark here...can I take out the spring for the fuel pin and see if I get more fuel when the pin is down? Or am I looking at a runaway or other damage? I'm lost now, I've replaced the AFC tube and looked at everything I know about at least twice........VERY FRUSTRATED!

Make sure the pin itself (that which rides against the cone) isn't stuck in it's bore.

All works well...only getting about 15 psi @ WOT. A little smoke in 2nd gear but thats it. What could I be missing? Is this all I can expect until I go bigger on the injectors? It did run better about a week ago, before the shutdown solenoid went south...any ideas...anyone?

your probably not going to get anymore boost than that if your just revving the engine up in neutral, you should be able to get more boost when you put some sort of a load on the motor.

If it happened exactly when the fuel shutoff solenoid went, I wouldn't be surprised if the piece of rubber got stuck somewhere. Depending on how big the chunk is, it could be stuck in the passage the solenoid blocks to kill the engine. You may be able to take the solenoid out and use a flashlight to check.

I've never heard of it happening before, but it could be the problem.
