Carbuff, Yes the plugins are different so I bought a connector for an 05 plug and cut the two wires from my 03 harness and wired this in but did not get a light in my dash in or out of 4 wheel drive ,should it not have something?

carbuff, I took the 05 switch out of the 05 transfer case with engine running, its plugged in with a new connector and wired to my 03 harness (truck is an 03) which is only two wires, I pushed the round plunger on the bottom in and out and still got no light on dash. I know you said they work opposite, thats why I took it out to try it, should I not get a light this way? sorry to bug you so much.

IIRC, the switches also give different resistances to signal the light on the dash. It isn't quite as simple as I thought it should have been. I figured it would be a true open circuit is one position and a true closed circuit in the other. It turns out that it was more like a temperature sender where the resistance varies. The computer looks for a certain resistance to turn on the dash light.

HOT SHOT: It sounds like you may just need a new switch if your light won't go off. I would have to say that the light is the "weak link" of the 3rd gen 4wd system. By having it sense on the sector, the light tells you what it is trying to do. Most of the time it is fine but if the system is bound up, your 4wd light may go off before the truck is actually out of 4wd. Granted, that is really not a big deal.

Carbuff, Thanks for all your help, guess I'll have to go without a light for now, unless theres some other alternative to splitting the transfer cases, Im not able, and it would cost more than I can afford right now, not sure if its even worth it, should have spent the extra bucks on the right case, did not think things would be this much trouble. lesson learned.
