216 Urg!!

I just pulled my trailer out of storage to go camping this weekend. Normal power still playing with my new trans but everything feels fine. I just did a quick front brake job and for grins ran the key trick 1693 and 216.

Ok, IP's dying should I still go camping this weekend? I'm going about 100 miles into the Rockies to dry camp with a bunch of friends. but the main road to and from is a 2 lane road with rocks on each side (hwy 24 west of Colorado Springs just past Lake George if your familiar with the area) I'll be by myself so no kids or wife I just don't want to brake down on the way their or back. URGGG why now!!!

Next ethical question. I have 82000 on the ticker and this is "technically" covered under warranty. I have never tapped the wire just the mods in my sig. Can I get the dealer to replace it under the 100,000 mile Cummins warranty? I mean come on an ez killing a VP, I think not. I upgraded the LP to help it. Your opinions?

Thanks.

Answer to question #1. Do you feel lucky? I know how my luck is, I don't think I would, but then have you ever had one of those days when it's a beautiful sunny day and can see one dark cloud off in the distance? Well that cloud is over my head raining cats, dogs and elephants. As for question #2, Absolutely, I would be standing in front of the nearest dodge dealer as soon as they opened! A warranty is a warranty. unless you really bombed the truck big time, I would give it a shot. If they say no go, then at least you tried. Good luck!

I,ve been driving for over a year with "the code" and so far I've been doing alright.
Take it to the dealer. This vp44 was a mistake to begin with..let them eat it if ya can. I have some cash set aside for a vp and a fass when mine finally goes south..

Sorry I'm so long winded but I've been planning this trip for 6 months. I'm going come heck or high water. I just want the comforts of my second home with me.

Should I take the EZ off for the trip or will that make a difference? I would like the extra power if I could. I'm already on borrowed time I know but for how long is the question.

Thanks again.

Tampering with VP44

Read this before you try to warranty your injection pump.

What is your in service date? they will tell you that it's 5year/100000. some have said that that starts after the 3/36, but they will fight that (more than likely). Read up on that before heading off in that diretion. If they see the EZ on there then it will be void.

HUH....interesting TSB you got there.....but that really doesn’t apply to his module....except for some of the codes. I would have someone clear them out with a scanner before you take it in. AND as always a good test, see if it even comes back. If you haven’t had any drivability issues, I don’t think you will have a prob. Of all the VP’s I have done though the years….i have only seen like 3 or 4 of them just “Fail” and shut the truck down. AND when they do that it’s a catastrophic failure and normally doesn’t set any codes…..the 216 code is normally linked to the “dead pedal” condition.

Take if for what its worth, but this is what I have seen over the years……

Do you feel lucky?
If you want some comfort, I drove mine 6,000 miles after the 0216 code and dead peddle, before I bought a new one.

Trucks at the dealer. Waiting for a phone call. My trip has been postponed by one day. I hope to get it back tomorrow evening or early Sat but again I'm still waiting for them to tell me what's wrong, we all know the VP is going but is the code enough for them to change it out. I did have on history about 1.5 years ago I was in the shop for a low power condition, they did nothing but hopefully with the history and the code I'll get the VP replaced but that's not my luck lately.

Stay tuned.

Update
They are denying warranty due to the 5 year part, June 07. I clearly told them about page 12 in the owners manual that states the 5/100 starts AFTER the 3/36. No listen to me. So I'm out $100 diagnostics to tell me I have a p0216 code and the injection pumps is bad. They did clear the code and drove it and it came back so the pump is bad.

I suck up the $100 over the phone and say leave my truck in the lot and I'll be buy to pick it up. 30 minutes later I get a call, you can't get your truck. We have all the fuel lines disconnected for testing and our mechanic(s) have all left for the day So no driving until tomorrow AM. I called the other dealer in town and talked to our sales guy, he ran my info through his computer and said "it should be covered under warranty" More info tomorrow AM. I really trust this guy but I'm not holding my breath. $2670 for the repair at this dealer. I will not pay that price, I'll pay the 1200 online for the pump and replace it over the weekend.

I had a dealer here that wanted to replace my tranny because it was doing the shifting thing around 45 mph. I then read on here about cleaning grounds and batt/alt connections. Bottom line, they couldn't care less what is wrong. All they need to do is hand you some kind of diagnostic, that they may or may not have done, and hope you dummy-up and pay for THIER repairs. Drive that truck till the pump fails..at least you'll know that's the problem then..
In all my years as an aircraft mechanic, I have never replaced a component (after receiving a pilots write-up) unless I could PROVE that it is was bad. More often than not, we end up with a CND (cannot duplicate) and put the aircraft back in service with no repairs.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it... Go camping

I got mine replaced by the dealer. Had to pay for the repairs up front. Sent all my info to DC and got a check back minus the 100 deductible. The dealer will refuse, but if you have all of your documentation, you should get your money back. BTW I also had a Bully Dog hooked up and was even noted on the repair order.

Good news maybe but I can't say until I know for sure. Stay tuned until Tuesday.

Oh ya, I'm out of warranty per "the computer"

Sorry
