2001 died on the highway while towing
Got a call from a good friend of mine today. He was on his way with his horse trailer down the highway and truck had the following symptoms:
Truck made a noise that sounds like when you run off the road and are driving on the rough part of the highway in the emergency lane.
At that point truck started slowing down. Accelerator applied and no speed. Truck is still running.
Pulls over and truck runs, tries shifting transfer case to low and back to hi and no change. Also no leaks.
So where does that leave us. Got truck, trailer, and horses home with help from family. (flatbed trailer)
Truck is a 2001 24 valve ctd. 5spd 4.10 rear 4x4. NP241 transfer case.
I am leaning towards the transfer case. I am looking for help so that we start in the right direction.
If it is the transfer case, is it belt or chain driven? Is there a spline shaft or something in there that could have stripped? If it were the clutch per say, what is the best? LUK or Southbend ETC?
Thanks in advance
Jason
