2001 24 valve won't Rev up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
HI Guys,

A friend of mine had some trouble with his ram this morning. He lost the oil pressure gauge and the light ( oil) came on. He tells me the engine sounds normal so he thinks its a sender problem. First question, Where is the oil pressure sending unit on his engine?

Next question. He decided to unplug some stuff ( Ie the sensor at the front right of the head ( I believe it to be the temp sensor) Then He started it. He now had oil pressure but the truck would not rev up, Even after shutting it down and reconnecting the temp sensor. ( no check engine light!!!) So I have not seen the truck yet, but I was wondering what this problem could be cased by. I don't have a code reader but the check engine light is not on (so he tells me)
It apears the truck has went into limp mode as it will still move but only because it goes to high idle when it is started.
How can I fix it?
How can I test that oil sending unit?

THanks
For any help you might give

Rampuller.

Re:2001 24 valve won't Rev up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
he may have accidentaly disconnected some of the small wires that connect the APPS (their located underneath the unit), this will cause the truck to idle only.
Re:2001 24 valve won't Rev up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I recently had the same oil pressure problem. I took it to the dealer and the mechanic told me that it was the sending unit. FYI this is not covered under the exclusive 100k mile engine warranty. $200.00 later and a self install (I am not paying them $60.00 to install something that takes 15 minutes) it was working fine. Also this is a cummins made only product, you cannot go and buy it at your local parts store.
The sending unit is located on the drivers side of the engine, just behind the fuel filter housing. You will need a 1-1/8 wrench to remove it, but not a difficult task.
