1997 Cummins Electrical Issue ????
I just bought a 1997 12V Cummins off of a friend of mines dad. The truck has 350,000 km and is in very nice condition. He is giving it to me for 3000 CDN which is a darn good deal for this 3/4 ton. The transmission was rebuilt 50,000km ago for roughly 3600 CDN. I know very little about this unit for now.
The truck seems to have a electrical gremlin. Driving down the road the lights all of a sudden go dim/flicker and the torque converter unlocks. I am not sure of all the symptoms yet but will have the truck in the next month or so. Has anyone seen or heard of anything like this before ?
Also what should i be aware of with a 12V of this vintage. I have a 2004 cummins as well. Does the 1997 need the KDP mod ? Anything else. Thanks

sounds like a short some where . look real close at the wire harness, also I would check all the grounds , the head light switch is a known problem, and yes the 97 has the KDP issue tab it fast.1 more thing if the alt. is going out it can cause that. crank sensor too
