12v Oil Pressure .....

coming home from ohio i looked down and noticed my oil pressure gauge was at 0. i was running 70- 75 mph when i noticed this and have no idea how long it was like that. i pulled it out of gear and moved quickly to the side of the highway. but then the as the clutch was in the o/p went right back up to normal. the engine sounded fine so i after checking all that i know of i figured it must be the oil pressure sending unit or the gauge itself. i continued home and after the next stop for fuel the gauge was right where it should be the rest of the way home.. is it the sending unit ?? if so where is it ?? i looked in my clymer manual at the fuel stop and couldnt find an oil pressure sending unit. whats your thoughts guys ....... it scared the crap out of me so please help..... scott

probably the sending unit... could be the wire plugged into the unit itself. might try cleaning the contact.

reading a number of posts like this prompted me to install an aftermarket gauge so I'll KNOW exactly what's going on.

I had the same thing happen to me. When it did, I almost loaded my drawers. It has not happened since. I have tried to get it to screw up so I could figure it out, but no luck. I am waiting for it to act up again. Chances are it is the sending unit.

Quite a few folks have reported that the cheaper after market senders (like Carquest) don't last long.
Might want to save your money and buy from Cummins.
