well they said it was the trailer lights on the trailer plug on the truck, they said there was a tsb. star told them to reflash and pull 2 diodes for thirty seconds.they did and it started right up. i'll get the info off the order with the code set and tsb number when i return home.

Hopefully they repaired it under warranty. I mean really.........., your trailer wiring caused the truck not to start? Come on .

Gotta love electrical gremlins, glad to hear you got it fixed, too bad it was on a long haul like that.

My 06 did that last month. Chrysler would not look at it until they did the cold start reflash. Ends up it was a corroded wire that chrysler is aware of. No power to the starter. They told my mechanic right where to look. Bet you have the same issue. Sometimes it would start and sometimes nothing at all. Jim

Yeah - is this a wire, diode, or both problem?

well the saga continues, 160 miles from home the truck would not start again. I pulled the 2 diodes the tech in nevada showed me, and still no start. I remembered someone here in some other post saying the yellow wire to the starter was a problem. well i crawled underneath saw the yellow wire moved it around and asked my wife to give it a try. it started right up. its going to my hometown dealer tomorrow. this is really bumming me out now. I new something was wrong when I hit the unlock on the remote. I heard the doors unlock but lights did not flash as usual. got in turned key it cranked one time then nothing. if its related to the security system why would moving wire on starter get it to go. on a side note total trip was 5,445 miles avg. fuel economy as per the overhead which has been checked many times and is fairly accurate was 15.8 mpg. this was pulling a trailer approx. 7600 lbs route was I-80 from ohio to sanfrancisco
same route back. overhead was never reset so as to see overall mpg. I have an 04 Dmax which made the same trip twice before and averaged
11-12 mpg. but the chevy always started. this 06 ram has been great for
25,000 mi. now but if this keeps up another bowtie could be on the horizon. sorry about the long post, but i'm pi**ed off.

I first read about the yellow wire on cumminsforum.com. Sorry to hear it's not a myth.

update, local dealer checked truck today and said yellow wire is ok. they said it needed reflashed tsb 08-021-06. I said that is the same reflash as done by dealer in nevada 1 week ago when this all started. they said if this had been done prior thier scantool would not let them reflash again for same tsb. they said the reflash this time was accepted. this reflash is supposedly. they said this new reflash was to allow the electrical system to be less susceptible to trailer wiring short circuits. it changes tipm trigger point from 15amps to 17.5 amps. it also changes starter solenoid current from 75 amps to 100 amps.supposedly on diesel equipped trucks current can at times exceed 75 amps. They said they checked the starter wiring and the yellow wire checked out ok. so why did it start after i moved it around yesterday when it would not start. WE DON'T KNOW!

Man, on these new trucks, there's just too many kinks in the plumbing!

I think you got snowballed both times. There ain't no software than can tell a motor how much it can or cannot draw.

I'd keep checking for a loose connection. Don't be surprised when it happens again.
