06 running rough
06 running rough
I have noticed lately that my 06 runs really rough when I start it. I can idle it up to about 1500rpm and it gets better but doesnt completely go away. Whats funny is that I can rev it to about 2000 rpm and then let it come down to 1500 rpm and it seems to run fine. I can pull up to a red light and it will run rough then two minutes later pull up to another and it runs smooth as can be. It seems to run ok while driving down the road. I am going to change the fuel filters this evening to see if it helps but I dont think thats going to be the problem.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Try some injector cleaner and running the truck like a scalded dog for a day.. When is the last time you changed the filter?
06 running rough
The filters have been changed recently. I did go ahead and change them again this evening just to be sure they were not the culprit. I am running a two micron filter with the factory(for about 65,000 miles now)filter. I stopped this afternoon and put some Howe's Meaner Cleaner in the fuel. I got home and it was running just fine. I changed the filters and it still ran just fine. I went out a little while ago to go to town and guess what....It ran terrible. When I accelerate from a complete idle it sounds like "spark knock" in a gas motor except that the knock has a slight "chirping" sound to it.. If I am just above idle and then accelerate it still runs rough but I dont get the "chirping" sound. I really think the sound is coming from the injectors but I am not 100% sure. I checked the oil and it is holding steady where it should be. The turbo spins freely and isnt contacting the housing anywhere.
The truck has over 165,000 miles on it and this is the first problem ever so I am trying to figure it out.
thanks for any info.

It sound like you have a pending injector failure. You should have the truck scanned to isolate which injector or injectors are failing. I have 41k on mo 06 and all 6 injectors have already been replaced. I have one making the exact noises you are describing, so it it going back into the dealer. Get it checked soon so you don't over fuel a cylinder and wipe out the engine.

I took the truck to a fuel injection shop here in Austin yesterday. They put a scanner on it and said that the rail pressure was ok ( idled @ 6900+psi). They checked the exhaust temp of each cylinder and #3 was about 10-15 deg cooler than the rest. They said that for sure the injector was not leaking by into the cylinder but that it may not be spraying correctly. They also said my problem could be caused by the valves possibly being out of adjustment.
On another note. They had a DRBll scan tool but it would not connect up to my computer. He said it would not recognize the computer. They had to use another type of scan tool to do it. I have never had any downloader(quad max milage box only)on it so why would it not work?
thanks again

I just bought a 06 last month. After having it a week if got a miss at start up cleared after running down the road, but would return after stopping and idling for 5 mins. Then it got hard to start sometimes. Carried it to Dodge and had 1 injector bleeding down, that blew the head gasket and started the front and rear main seals leaking.
After they pulled the turbo found it bad. Pulled the head and found 1 cylinder wall scared and 4 bad valves.
Is soon as they get finished I get the truck back with a new motor. Sometime next week. The dealer wants to order every part 1 at a time.
Sounds like a injector going bad.
