06 common rail overheating

I was sitting at a stop sign and my attitude started going nuts and said the truck was overheating. Looked down at my guage and it was running around 225, then it dropped to 200 all at once. Drove it back to our motel and it never done it again. What in the crap is goin on? Anybody had this problem? Thanks for any help.

No codes?

I'd suspect the thermostat hung up...

No trouble codes. I was really hoping that was all it was since it just went away. I guess i'll just cruise it around and hope it doesn't happen again. How hard is it to change a thermostat? Is it right on top of the head where the hose runs in?

Yeah, I don't think it would take much time to switch it out, just for peace of mind.

I would think it would have thrown a code if there was something wrong with the fan clutch?

My '03 had 2 fan clutch assemblies go bad and neither time a code was sent to the ecm. But, I do agree that the t-stat could have stuck. My ol' Bronco has done it a time or two. Just keep a close eye on your temps. If you have access to a new t-stat you're looking at maybe 15 mins to switch it out.

Keep us posted!
