Just make sure you fill it to the same spot, otherwise you'll get unaccurate numbers.
As bad as Diesel Fuel foams, if you just fill till it clicks off itself, you'll never fill to the same level.
Especially in the hot summer.
Last time I filled up I was able to get 2 gallons in after it clicked off.
Yes, it took a while, fill a little, let the foam die down, fill a little more, more foam to die down, etc.
I gained 1 MPG just making sure I filled till I could see fuel.

Or you can install air bags (insert my truck here) Tip it to one side and fill till its really full ;D

I noticed that there seems to be great emphasis on filling the tank to the same point, all the time for more accuracy. If this is true, why? What's wrong with setting trip odo at the last fillup, noting how many gallons on the next fill and noting the miles travelled since setting the trip odo. Always worked before. Maybe I'm missing something here. ??? ???

Due to the foamy nature of Diesel fuel, you don't know exactly how full you are when it clicks itself off.
There could be no foam that day, or you could be sitting on a half tank of foam.
I only noticed a 1mpg difference between filling till it clicks, and filling to the neck.
Probably 2-3 more gallons, if even that.

Re:Are you kidding me???
FWIW I consistantly refill between 0-20 DTE and more or less get about 30 gallons of fuel at about 575 on odo. I haven't had any foam issues at the station I use. I do remember the last time I drove a diesel, 5-6 years ago, foam was a problem.

Re:Are you kidding me???
Ok an update. This weekend I pulled my Trailer 222.5 and filled up 19 gals from the same pump, that is 11.7MPG . Today running around a bit unloaded in town the computer says 14.8 MPG. That means that pulling the trailer my old MPG increased by 2 MPG . Unbelievable? ??? Oh, yea, my overhead computer is 100% correct on these numbers. I think it will improve ;D.
Thanks for the help.

These are only ruff #’s but a 2500 2wd 6sd should get 19-22
Add duel wheels lower mpg 2
Add auto lower 1-2 mpg
Add 4x4 lower 1-2mpg
Again just ruff #’s but should be in the ballpark

I have duel wheels, auto, and 4x4 and I always get 21+ mpg on the highway at 55 mph. That's off the computer which everyone seems to think is reporting LOW. I'll do it by hand the next couple fill ups to see how accurate the computer is.

You say you only got 2,000 + miles on the beast.
I really wouldn't worry about mileage till you at least got 10-15,000 miles on her.
PS
Jus to make you feel bad - I mean better ;D
Turned 360,000 miles today and I can average around 17 on the highway.

360,000 miles!!! Bravo, bravo! I doubt if all the vehicles I've ever owned added up to that. I feel better about the Cummins every time I hear a high mileage story.
