Would you buy a 7.3??
Would any of you ever own a 7.3 liter ford?? i love the cummins, don't get me wrong, but i know alot of die hard 7.3 liter fans. i work at a heavy equipment dealer, so all our customers drive diesel trucks. and i see alot of fords. and everyone that i have talked to liked their 7.3's and always said they were reliable. i am really in love with the for 4 door cab. i am looking at a local truck. it is a 4 door, 4wd, long bead, dually, 6 spd, loaded, leather, tow tone black/tan. nice truck with 160k. this would be my dream truck with a 12v cummins!! after all i could always ditch the engine right?!
My company truck is a 2000 7.3 SuperDuty, I just rolled over 220,000 miles and countless hours idling (oil patch). The only thing I have ever had done to the engine is 2 cam positon sensors and 8 glow plugs. In other words I would not hesitate to buy a 7.3/Ford, it's eaten less parts than my Dodge has by a large margin. That being said I still like 6 in a row better.

The ONLY reason that I wouldn't buy one is because my Cummins can pull circles around one ALL DAY LONG. However, if the Cummins never existed (as crappy as we all know that would be) heck yeah I would buy one...they are a good motor.
I talked my friend into buying an '02 7.3 over the Dodge of that year. It has been very reliable. I do feel that the 3rd gens are a quantum leap in most areas over the Fords from '03 up. My Cat heavy duty diesel tech friend's fleet of 6.0's are constantly down.
No I would not buy a 7.3 Not because it isn't reliable or have decent power. It simpley takes to much fuel when pulling!! I have pulled side by side with 7.3 auto and manual and when you pull heavy the cummins will beat it by about 2 miles per gallon.
Sure I'd buy one, but only as a back up for my Cummins(once I get that....)
I actually like the interior. Ford's interior throughout the years have always impressed me. Save for the 78-82 years of pickups/Bronco's. Yuck.

I had an 01 Ford F250 7.3 6 spd, crew cab. The motor was good, it sounded horrible in my opinion, but never had ANY motor related issues. What I did have was 3 clutches when I traded it @ 87,XXX miles. Two new starters went into it, emergency brake assymbly fell apart several times, the accelerator peddle fell off the stem twice. Needless to say I was NOT thinking that at Ford....Quality was job one.
To sum it up, The 7.3 motor never let me down, it was just the rest of the truck. My biggest problem with all this was the 3 clutches in 87,XXX miles. I could understand if it were even slightly modded, but this truck was 100% stock, with the exception of the stereo system.
