Helps with warm up and keeps you warm if your just running around town. I take it off if I'm driving any distance on the interstate or towing.

Your 03 is a bottom breather anyway. Gets most of it's cooling air from under the bumper. A winter front will help with warmups and around town as the previous poster stated. I run one on my 93 fully closed below 40*F all the time and haven't ever had a heating issue. Towing, running down the highway, whatever. Plowing would likely be different. If it gets over 200* and stays there, open a flap or two. It'll cool right off. I happen to believe they run more efficiently when they're warm anyway. If I could get a 195 t'stat, I'd run it year round. my .02

I did much experimenting with winter fronts and came to the conclusion that fronts don't help at all. Too much air comes in from underneath the truck. Only time I saw a rise in coolant temps is when the outside temp was over 70F and the front should have been off anyway.

What does work for me though is removing the fan for the winter.

See the link in my previous post. The front that AK Tent & Tarp makes goes behind the grill and covers the entire radiator. It will work. I had one on my '96 gasser.

I have the Dodge front. They go for $125 or so, but I found mine on Ebay for 1/2 that.

I like it and noticed the difference. Plugging in and a winter front gets the cabin toasty in short time.

There are a few threads on this. There are several different brands out there, all cheaper than the Dodge one. The Dodge one fits like a glove, although iirc, alot of other members are happy with their non-Dodge fronts, too.

There are also battery blankets available.

BTW, Welcome to DTR!
