The reason it is higher is because of the .50Cent road tax on it. The goverment is making so much money at 50 cents a gallon on these truckers.

Yeah, but despite the oil price increases, consumption is up in the USA. At what point will this reverse is the real question. The US price for consumers is much lower than most other nations in the world. As far as why diesel is more than gasoline, my theory is because that the country's shipping, transportation and farming demand for diesel is there and will continue to be there. All those involved in that trade pass the buck to their clients. As long as consumpton continues at the pace it is right now, you will see prices keep going up until the threshold is met. What that is, is anyones guess. I suspect that when it hits 3 something, there will by a slight backoff and the economy starts to really limp. Price will go up, and wait untill we enter Iran. Talk about unstability, we aint seen nothing yet. Taxes, well that is another forum in itself...Just my vent.

If there's a windfall profit tax (again) it will not be passed on to consumers. The last one was to fund a new government agency, the DOE (Department of Energy) which is nothing more than a big black hole for money. They have done nothing to promote or develop new energy sources.
Only way out of this hole is to phase out the EPA. This will allow more refineries to be built and more domestic drilling.

And the Chinese is trying to buy Unocal so they can have another source of fuel.

What do you expect... We sent all our industry of there! They need the fuel and oil for every industry we sent over there... Also to ship it back...

finally you guys on the east coast are catching up with us on the West Coast... We been up here at $2.35 to $2.50 for a long time now...

But here we go again back up to $2.70 - $2.90 a gallon for diesel!

its 2.30$ here in Denver, I have a gasser still. I want to buy a diesel, mainly for the MPG and ability to use alternative fuels if I so desire, but boy oh boy, im beginning to wonder if the MPG increase is = to or < than the cost difference.

NUKE THEIR *** and TAKE THEIR GAS!

Prices here in Germany are about $1.10 euro per liter of fuel. About $6.00 a gallon.
We will be taking the train a lot for some of out trips. Good rail service here.

Yup, and with any luck in'08 we can look forward to another 8 years of good economy like we had with Clinton. (note, things took a HUGE turn after his administration)
Like one respsected news outlet said in regards to Iraq: "We gave you freedom, now where's our cheap gas"?
I hate to jump on the bandwagon here, but isn't Bush buddies with the Bin Ladin family and the Prince of Saudi Arabia? Can't they do something to help these prices?
Might be time for some civil unrest here in the states?
As I have said before, it will all be crystal clear in about 20 years on the history channel. All the Bush supporters will eat their smart comments then!

Today, STL Missouri a gallon of BP Diesel cost $1.692 Now, the federal tax is 24.4 cents and the state tax is 17.0 cents. There is also a .7cent EPA charge for storage tank fund. This adds up to 42.1cents in taxes! The filling station will also have to pay freight (which is obviously rising) that could add up to 2 cents... The trucking (ME) company typically makes 2 cents profit on diesel... Bringing the gas stations COST to $2.153 Now we all know the stations have to make a little profit too, so that is where you get your street price. BTW: Stations DO lose money at times due to competition, there are some places in STL selling diesel for 2.059, and some that are selling for up to 2.299 Just though you might want to know......

Right on bama!
People don't seem to think it out that radioactive fallout will effect the entire planet and make the Arab oil states uninhabitable for a long time.
We would have less oil.

Kinda like the oil we "can't" burn here so we send it over to China for them to burn and blow over on us anyway?
Who was worried about fallout after Pearl Harbor?
Why we waited so long to invade the WRONG counrty should perplex all of us. Instead, we support our fearless leader with just about the rest of the WORLD looking on like we are fools.

Please don't take this to mean I don't support our men and women overseas.

Where are those WMD's at these days anyway??????????

Shouldn't we be seeing a decrease in demand for fuel in the USA if all of our industry has been sent to China?

Demand for fuel is increasing in both China and the USA.
