Between my laziness in washing my truck, and the fact that I can't anyways due to water restrictions, should I be worried about the soot that is building up on my rear fender and bumper? Will it ruin the paint?

My truck is bright white, and the soot has always come off just fine.

Same here.....Arctic White and I have never any paint issues caused by soot....and it has been caked on a little thick from time to time as the result of my laziness....

 

One of these days I'm gonna have to worsh mine. Hasn't beed worshed since I took the engine out a few years ago. My white bed has a lot of black specs inside and out.

 

mine comes off the paint fine, the stock rear bumper didnt fare so well. i cant be positive, but it seems the soot filled in the little imperfections of the chrome and i cant get it to shine up and has a blackened look to it. but its on the bottom so i dont worry to much about it. btw i only went for about 2 weeks w/o washing it cause of the constant rain. just my .02

same here.... my rear bumper looks kind of weird on the passenger side.... get some stacks and you won't have to worry about your bumper.....

 

Eventually it will stain it w/o any cleaning. I put a new exhaust tip on mine & no soot is visible anymore. Been on there all summer & no problems yet.

 

Take a piece of 4x steel wool to the bumper with a little degreaser, took the soot off mine just fine. Next time you wash the truck, put 3 or 4 good coats of wax where the soot builds up on the back fender. That will help the clear coat fight off the soot. That's my .02.

 

Would a chrome wheel cleaner get it off the bumper? I've never tried ut, but it might work. You might try a Meguires Powerball or a Flitz wheel too.

 

I bought one of these http://www.genosgarage.com/prodinfo....r=MEGS-0069-DG and it helped cut down on bumper soot between washings.

 

good ole chrome turn down works wonders.....poof no more soot

 

That's why I put a SS turndown under the rear of the cab.
