When I was a pre-teenager I liked GMC trucks because one of my Uncles used GMC pickups and larger trucks on his farm. There were no diesel powered farm trucks in the old days. I was a GM follower thereafter, until when I was in my later teens and got a 32 Deuce Coupe with a flat head V8. That is when I became a Ford enthusiast, even to the point of brand loyalty. My first pickup trucks as an adult were Fords, until I could not stand the junk they were producing during the 1970's. I never had reached the point of blind loyalty and seriously doubted Ford. The extreme poor quality in Ford's production resulted in the GMC gasoline powered pickup entered back into my life. A few production defects in the GMC pickup kept me from becoming blindly loyal to GM. My son was at first a Ford man, but the poor quality turned him into now being a blindly loyal GM customer. (2002 chev trail blazer with a I-6 gasoline engine, a 72 K5 V8, and 72 C10 V8)

I had wanted a diesel powered pickup truck since somewhere around 1985, but as the American auto-makers brought out their diesel engines I could not decide on the best unit for me. I still had not done enough research to know that an inline engine is the most sturdy, efficient and reliable configuration for an internal combustion piston driven engine. My spouse was not enthused with the rough ride in the Dodge trucks and I was not sure whether the Dodge chassis was that well engineered. Anyway, putting all my faith in any type of I-6 diesel, this year I bought my first diesel puckup. Up to this point I am not disappointed. I am now trying to get the 3500 Dodge rigged up for towing a couple of gooseneck trailers that I have not decided on yet. Recearch helps anyone prevent the condition of ignorance and stupidity overtaking them.

but is the cummins really a new engine?... not even close to the Ford 6.0.. and especially the GM.

I think they were talking about the fuel systems. HPCR started with the '03.

I shopped all three brands and debated gas vs diesel when I was in the market for a rig to tow a fifthwheel. Boy I'm glad I decided to go with the Cummins...

I had an idea something was up with the Ford diesels because I was about 90% sure I wanted to go the diesel route and the Ford dealer kept pushing me back towards their V10. Something seemed odd... guess he was trying to do me a favor.

a few months ago when i was in the market for a new truck, i test drove all three new diesels. I drove 3 brand new 05 6.0 psd's. i must say i really liked the rest of the truck. i love the front end and the way the crew cab short beds look. but all three brand new 6.0s i drove all had leaky rear main seals. And one saleman at torrington ford in CT let me drive the truck by myself(not wise on his part ) i blew the coolant overflow cap off and anitfreeze blew all over the engine bay, come to find out that's a sign of a bad head gasket at the ripe old age of 15 miles. i prumptly drove to the dodge dealer and bought a cummins

Here is something I found interesting in the article.

I belive manufacturing #'s were listed on DODGERAM.ORG for the 2000 model year. The 300,000 number sticks in my head. They are talking about 250,000 6.0's. I'm the CTD number has went up since 2000. Maybe he meant the side of the road.

Went with a friend of mine about 3 months ago who wanted a truck.....heart set on a 6.0L (even after I told him about my 6.0L adventures).

We must have started up 30 trucks.......only 2 started up on the 1st crank. The rest of them cranked for 5-7 seconds.

OK....so we go and drive one....06 4x4 crewcab lariat. Three blocks from the dealership leaving a stop sign, he went to floor it.........dead......and wont restart. Lying bastage of a salesman says........this is weird........"the 6.0L is the MOST reliable diesel out there". I laughed so hard, he thought I was crazy.

They sent us a Focus to come pick us up.

6.0 equals only one thing JUNK!!!!!

Here's another funny story.......

I get a phone call on monday from a lawyer representing the dodge dealership that I traded my 6.0L into almost 2 years ago with 4000miles.

Aparently, the guy who bought the truck is suing the dealership (2 years after purchase) because Ford voided the warranty on the truck due to engine modifications. They took the truck in 3 times for a bunch of stuff he said. On the 3rd visit, Ford said that they could not find anything wrong, but the engine had be modified, so adios warranty.

The lawyer wanted to know if I had any warranty issues with the truck when I had it, and if it had its warranty intact when it was traded. So told him all my wows with it and the lawyer was not surprised that I traded it and said that they since 2003 he can't remember how many times Ford has voided warranty either due to "lack of maintainence" (they 2nd or 3rd owner has no way of proving that that the 1st owner did do the oil changes, so Ford gets away with it), or for "Engine Modifications", when they can't fix it, and Ford has voided warranties for just a air filter mod. Ford does not expect most people to take the time and get a lawyer and sue them back.

Best thing I did was get rid of that HEAP OF JUNK!

Just got back from my local dealer. Haven't been there in over a year and wanted the Cummins mechanic to look at something. Was shocked to see a 6.0 on his lift...bellhousing leak. Was more shocked to hear my mechanic tell me that HE HAD PURCHASED IT 4 MONTHS AGO! He found out Wednesday while looking at a web site about 6.0's how big of a mistake he had made.

I don't think I'd be letting a "Cummins mechanic" that bought a 6.0 work on anything I owned. That's one person that should know better. I bet there's not a ford diesel mechanic anywhere that owns a 6.0.

Ford should have kept the 7.3 L. They tend to phase out every good engine they make. I think they try to put engines in that won't last long so they'll need more service. The 6.0 just lasted less than that were shooting for. I have a 300 6 cyl in a 1980 F-150. IMHO that is the best motor ford has ever made. 17-18 mpg around town with a granny 4 spd and 33 inch tires. And it will last 200,000 to 300,000 miles. Saw one a while back with 250,000 on it and never needed anything but a starter and a water pump. Why would anybody in their right mind get rid of an engine like that? Mine only has 92,500 miles on it. Still runs great.

I was just reading this thread and it seems most of you are all convert'ees. Mostly Fords lost customers but I guess it just surprizes me that there are not more diehard dodge fans on the site. I know most of you bought the truck for the motor only end of it but I still think the truck has alot more to offer than just an awsome diesel. Namely i still think they have the best Cupholders in the buisness, and I think the ford interior styling always looked cheap as can be. Personal opinion but I like the whole truck (most of it anyway). My kids are brainwashed to, they knew by the time they were 5 that there grandpa (on the wifes side of course) must not be very smart for driving a ford. "Why does grandpa want to breakdown". Maybe I should layoff tha Mopar pressure on my youngins a little bit. At least till they are 6.
