Why I Own a Cummins
I just posted a link to this tread on IRV2.com. There are two ford owners there having the turbo problems discussed in this tread. Of course there are many other loyal ford owners there that read that tread, that will read this tread.

I bought my truck from the fleet operator I got my 3 duramaxes from. He had several king ranches and a couple of Chevy Lt's on the lot. He said to me that the best truck on the lot was the one he had been driving for the last month and that was the one I have. I wanted that 03 King Ranch as it was real comfy and had a huge interior. I followed his advice and paid $500 over what he paid for the truck a month before. I got the truck for $43k cdn taxes included for a mint truck with 7k km and he let me pay for it over 6 months
(interest freeee). The best quote I had for a new one was just under $65k taxes included. My partner's mother worked for Ford so he insisted on getting a f350. After the tranny crapped out twice and power kept dropping we got rid of it for an $11k loss in one year. We were lucky to get off that easy. My partner drives a Hyundai now
as his truck days with me are over. ks

I am one of those 58 buy back customers. I owned a 03 f-250 6.0 Lariet that my wife and I worked very hard to get. I admit that I looked the Cummins but did not like the interior room. So we purchesed the new 6.0 on faith of the reliability of the 7.3 One year later and 30 sheets of problems we filed for lemon law. Within 13 weeks of filling Ford baught back the truck. Cutting me check for every penny we had invested into the truck, (down payment, monthly payments made, taxes paid for when purchasing) The day we recieved the check we ordered our new Cummins. Interior still don't match up to the Ford's, but the Cummins engine is undescribable.
"By comparison, there have been eight service bulletins for GM's Duramax diesel V-8 and none for the diesel engine in the Dodge Ram truck. Both engines debuted at about the same time as the Power Stroke."
Nuff said!!!
Look at the Dodge TSB list for the last 3 years that Dodge used the Cummins. The 2002 had 5 TSB's related to the engine. None on 2003, 2004, 2005.
I was a die-hard Ford guy (Still am), Owned about 7 fords in my lifetime. All were excellent vehicles. Last one I owned was a 2002 Mustang GT and a 93 Bronco. Both had excellent engines, transmissions, and bodies. Sold them both to afford a Cummins. Got best of both worlds, decent milage (compared to the mustang) and excellent power (way outperforms the Bronco). Got to say, Chrysler has a lot to learn about interior, sheet-metal, and paint, especially for a work truck. As for the engine, they got that one down and picked a great engine. Ford and Chevy can't compare.

I'm not here just to bash Fords, but I took delivery of my new company truck in August of this year. A 2006, F-250, 6.0, auto., 4x4, crew cab, short bed, loaded. I was really happy to finally get to get out of the 97, Chevy 2500, 6.5 Turd Diesel that I had been driving for 4 years. My excitment was short lived though, as before the dealer tag had even been removed, it left me stranded at 4:30PM on a Friday, in the middle of a constuction zone on I-30 in Dallas. With 3300 miles on the clock it just died at 65mph going down the highway. Ford's roadside assistance wrecker showed up about 2 hours later to get the truck, and a friend gave me a ride home. It stayed in the shop for a week that time. They ended up replacing a injector that had broken almost in half, and the oil pump. The truck was back in the shop a month later for a popping in the front end, exceesive fuel consumption, rpm flair on part throttle upshifts, and paint peeling off the F-250 emblems. The popping in the front end, and fuel consumption was due to a bad 4 wheel drive switch causing it to go in and out of 4 wheel drive on its own, even though the indicator light on the dash never showed 4 wheel drive engaged. The trans. was reflashed to a newer program, which seemed to help for awhile, but I've noticed it starting to flair on upshifts more in the last few days again. They replaced the 2 fender emblems, but now the tailgate emblem is peeling. It doesn't really give me a warm and fuzzy feeling about the problems being solved on the 06's. I feel much more confident, especially when towing, with my personel truck the Dodge in my sig.

I dunno. A lot of them seem to want to do that. The question is, who is dumb enough to buy those trucks off of warranty ?
This one is great. Get your truck fixed on warranty (head gaskets), get noises when you turn left...

I pulled the 7.3 out of my truck and put a Cummins in and I didn't have to touch the cab.
And then there is the $800 head bolt business.

The fact that you even have to change the head bolts should be your first clue. The next clue should be that they cost more than $100.

Wow, and to think I was $1000, and 5 days away from trading my '03 Cummins for an '05 6.0 Ford back when they first started the employee pricing scams.I was p*ssed at Dodge that they weren't giving they same type of steep discounts for their Cummins powered truckd vs. the Hemis. I mean come on $9000 off MSRP for a Hemi 2500QC and only $3000 for a Cummins powered one. Anyways I went to the Ford dealer, and they only wanted to give me $12,500 trade for my Dodge citing mileage, and the fact mine is a so called hard to sell Reg. Cab I said no way. Reading this thread, they were probly amazed when a guy in a Dodge Cummins showed up to buy and needed my truck to improve their profits
. In fact, they called me back 5days later and told me they would give me pay-off amount of $16,800 if I came up with $1000dn. By then, the impulse to buy had wore off and I told them I wasn't intrested.

I bought a F450 in '03 ('04 model) because our company needed a 12' flatbed. What a mistake!
It has a vibration at 45mph and 65-80mph that cannot be cured, even after replacing multiple wheels, an entire set of tires, balancing the driveline, etc. (all under warranty). I gave up trying to get that fixed because we couldn't have it out of service any longer.
Add to that a new turbo at 25k miles, about three separate exhaust sensor issues, a failed wiring harness that made the truck smoke and run awful (funny, I got a recall notice about the same thing a week after I had it fixed), an injector, an oil leak from the filter housing, a turbo oil leak, and intercooler boot blew off, and all this with only 50k on the clock as of today.
I'm going to press HARD for a trade next year at about 75k. At least we'll get something for it in a trade. I don't want that POS to affect my bottom line. I'd rather take the hit for a trade than a new engine.
If we can't get rid of it and it fails after warranty, I'll replace the motor with a 325/610.

I won't even get into it because my blood BOILS at the thaught of ford and the 6.0. I lost all together about $15000. because of a pos 04 f550 I purchased. I had all of those things listed and then some finally ended up with bad heads, head gaskets, egr cooler and starter all out of pocket because I HAD a programmer in it.... Tried to get it lemoned but it was a commercial vehicle and not covered in mn. I am in the process of sueing ford for it now.
by the way I purchased my dodge because of the problems with my ford and I will NEVER go back to one of those .................................................. ................... oh my god I think I'm having a heart attack,, I gotta go!
