where to get best price on Cummins?

Does anyone have any leads on where to get the best prices on a 2005 Cummins 3500? They are ghastly expensive, even when I checked a dealership in the "country" with little overhead. I have a friend who used to work for Chrysler and even with an employee number she can give me, they are ghastly expensive. Any suggestions?

Thanks, Eileen

Hi MedicShawn, I wrote a reply to this before but it's not there, so I'm kind of confused. That dealer is near my house. The price there is not any less than the employee discount. I think it's a lot. I emailed this man and we'll see if something changes. But this isn't a new thing for me--I know that place.

MedicShawn, what color truck did you buy? When I was there looking one day in Nov., someone had flown in to get a red truck. He was next to me in the parking lot looking it over carefully.

Thanks, Eileen

Actually, I have been told more than once that one does BETTER WITHOUT the employee discount, and WORSE WITH it. I haven't gotten serious with anyone because I still have unanswered diesel questions (mostly pac brake questions), so I don't know how much things can change.

Thanks, Eileen

MedicShawn, would you feel comfortable telling us what you paid for your truck? Or perhaps how much under the MSRP?

Thanks, Eileen

Eileen.......I would check your local papers and maybe make some calls. If you can't get what you want in St. Louis, then it may be worth a trip to the Dallas Area. There is plenty of stock here and the dealers will deal. You could fly here and drive your new truck home.

My truck listed for about $42,000 and I paid about $33,000 for it. That included a spray in bed liner. You should be able to get in the neighborhood of $9,000 off or maybe better.

There probably is no reason to order one, if you can find a dealer with plenty of stock. But, make sure that your truck comes with the Flip-Out Tow Mirrors. I don't know why any dealer would NOT order them automatically, but I have seen some without them. IMHO...that is a mistake. They are well worth the cost.

Thank you. I'm going to continue to work on all this. Tomorrow I plan to research the Pac brake issue on a new Dodge Cummins. I may email you if I end up wanting to check out Texas. You aren't the first to tell me to look for a truck in Texas.

Thanks again, Eileen

Give Dave Smith Motors http://www.usautosales.com/newrigs/Dodge/ in Idaho a try. Folks from all over the country buy them there, they claim to sell more Dodge trucks than any dealer in the US. Even if you don't buy from them you can use their prices as a bargaining chip at other dealers.

I heard the dealer near you will sell them for 3% under invoice. Thats about as good as it gets.
