I changed the antifreeze in the radiator when I did the "KDP" two weeks ago.I was going to buy a can of over the counter anti rust/water pump lube ..you know the white stuff in the can..he said not to use that anymore, as there is a new product that works much better..however he could'nt think of the name of it or where to get it..other than a truck dealer parts counter..thanks in advance...

 

Nothing that I can think of. Best thing you can do is change the antifreeze AT LEAST every two years. That will keep fresh additives in system, and help prevent the system from rotting and rusting out.

 

I think it is Royal Purle or RedLine the sells some stuff call "Water Wetter". That may be what he was thinking.
That being said, when we had all the kids at home, I had a short bed F$%D, F250 Ranger 3/4T short bed,429 powered hog that I was going to load up and haul the family cross country on a PCS move. Before we left, I had the rad rebuilt and a giant 4 core made up by a company that had been in Tacoma for about 60yrs at that time.

I put the rad in and the people said that if I would run straight water in the system during the summer, and add the white lube you are saking about, and switch to antifreeze in the winter, the system should last forever.
That's what i did. The system held 5+ gal of water.

I made an extension for the rear of the frame, put overloads on her, loaded up a 12' cabover (1T empty), made a tow bar for the Vista, loaded the 4 kids, wife, camping gear, and packed the car.

Headed cross country in the spring and never a hickup. I even mounted the spare in front of the grill. It was an aftermarket rim with no slots in it...

In the summer down in Alabama, it would be so hot and hummid, the heat in the engine compartment would make the wires soft, but the engine NEVER had a prob staying cool with water and the Prestone white waterpump/rad system lube in it.

 

..thanks for the info..your right about the "Wetter Water" product..I understand some ATV 4-wheelers like to use it..The stuff I'am trying to locate is a #1) water pump lube and #2.) a anti-rust product from the same can..the special diesel stuff is 'spose to keep the PH acidity in check also..I'll go across town this week to the diesel shop and find out..thanks..and I'll never know how you guys can live in that heat down south...lol

 

BarsLeak makes a tablet that does the acid nutr. thing. They may have a lube now also..

Keep the Ph level steady, continually remove rust or other particulate that develops. That's what tears up the pump seal. Change the filter once a year and run the coolant at least five, no worries. Cheaper than changing out the anti-freeze more often, and better for the system overall in the long run. You can drain and fill all you want and it won't remove most of the sludge that eventually clogs the radiator.

Remedies in a bottle are band-aids at best, and snake oil at worst.

I have a 1996 Dodge CTD 12 valve with a high performance engine that was built by Scheid Diesel. I also have Scheid Diesel's H.P. Water Injection System and use two (2) water pump/anti-rust fluids in my water injection system upon the recommendation of my friends at Scheid Diesel. The products I list below will stop rust from forming in the engine and also lubricates the water pump and internals of the cooling system.

The first one is called "Number 13" and is made by NAPA. It comes in a small plastic bottle. The second product is basically the same stuff but is made by "Bars Leak" and is called: "Water Pump Lubricant and Anti-Rust Fluid."
Both of these products work very well and have the "milky" look to them that was described. I buy mine from either NAPA or Car Quest Auto Parts Stores or you can call Scheid Diesel and have them send you some. Their number is 1-800-669-1934. Ask for Andy and he will help you out.
