Actually the "C" or "K" designate 4x2 or 4x4 in 1973-1987 only.

Here's a goofy background of how they figured it out

And I thought Ford was bad.

If that were true, my 1997 should NOT have said K1500 on the title, but it did!

1/2--3/4--1 ton

I*M not Up on the New Models--but--I Go by the Rear Axles--on 1/2 tons--You have to remove the Wheel & brake drum to get to the rear Axle--where on 3/4 & One tons--the rear axles are like the Big trucks-- as You can Remove the rear Axles w/out having to remove the wheels or brake drums!--& these Type rears are refered to as Floating Rears!--& WE all Know! all pick Ups are Over loaded--every once in a While!--I have a 3/4 Ton Camper Special--& this is what I have Found Out! mine has one ton Brakes & Springs--a Hd Drive line--& a bit larger Exhaust System--mines a 75 year model--& still Runs Good but I must Admit! now showing 400,000 miles just about every thing had been Replaced? at one time or another!--except the Engine--which is getting Tired!--as on Long Pulls She Don*t have the Power she used to!--but seeing Shes like ME Getting Old so what can I complain about?? as I really Don*t think? I*D ever get the Same Service out of any Newer Model Reguardless of Make!--Ole JIM--
