what is better common rail or vp44

my dad and a few other people said that with there 06 they noticed a huge difference in power from there 99 2000 or 2001 they said there old truck had more power and better gas mileage the only major thing that i know of different is the common rail system i thought that the new trucks would have more power and especially more fuel economy what do you think?

If I had to choose between one or the other , I would take a common rail hands down.

I also would pick a CR. No VP!

It seems that the CR does get a bit worse mileage though.

If they are talking stock to stock, I'm gonna have to disagree heavily. My truck would walk all over my dad's 99'...sound and mileage goes to him...but power, no way. I would hook a 10000lb trailer and have a tow-off any day of the week with a stock 99', 00' or 01'. I LOVE the trucks, don't get me wrong, but they don't have the power of today's CR trucks.

The only thing the VP has over the CR is fuel mileage.

only thing my VP/24 valve has over a common rail is that it's paid for!

One of these days I'm going to grab a truck off the lot and pull my trailer with it. I have the feeling that a stock 06 will do better than my mild modded 01.

Yeah, but you guys have that yearly VP44 payment.
I think the CR is a better engine all the way around. Better power, fuel economy can be gained through gearing, tires. The base engine is just so much better than the VP engine too.
The only real draw back to the CR system is its sensitivity to dirt in the fuel system. Any little piece of dirt past the fuel filter, and you will have stuck injectors over fueling, scored cylinder walls, burned up pistons, - new engine time.

I beg to differ....... my last VP44 payment was back in 2000. I sure wouldn't want the truck payment with that CR either. I am just really really happy to have my totally paid for truck.

I think it all boils down to money. I bought a 02 4x4 larimie QC just broke in a 60,000k for 20.000$. I have acceptable diesel power with the ez for towing my TT. I like 375/month for 5 years vs 600/month for 6years.. IF your rich then go for more. I have to live within my means. JMO
