You can get a brand new CAT C7 or Cummins ISB 6.7 put in for free...

Both engines have the EXACT HP and TQ numbers...

The reason I made this poll is that I was reading through an older issue of Diesel Power Magazine and saw this: "...if any owner of the Big 3 was given the opportunity to stuff a CAT in place of their current engine, they would."

So - would you take the CAT or stick with the Cummins?

And in your opinion, who makes a better engine?

 

If they left the emissions stuff off that'd be hard to say. If it was left on keep'em both.

 

I would Say stick with the cummins , Have you seen the price on replacement parts for a CAT? Get ready for sticker shock, that yellow paint is sure expensive...


Besides that , a C7 is a few hundred pounds heavier than a BTA 6.7.

 

No joke!!! Right down to the OEM Cat bolts, parts are expensive. The yellow alone must be made with gold.

 

as much as I love cat heavy equipment and stuff cummins is the only way to go for a truck.

 

I would take the Cummins. This is my first diesel but I have seen a lot of them and while the Cat is good it will be hard enough to fix the Cummins if it needs fixin.

My mother was a parts runner for a diesel shop and she picked up a lot more parts for Cats than for Cummins. I don't know what the ratio of Cat to Cummins is on the road but that to me says something.

 

I'd say "If you're the ones administering the warranty, I'll take the Isuzu."

Interesting enough , the actual paint itself is the only thing from CAT that isn't super expensive. I had to get 2 spools to replace a couple scratched ones in a hand control valve on a Cat excavator ( are are talking two little tiny hydraulic spools , less than 1/4 in diameter , and about an inch long) the price from CAT , almost 600 bucks I almost dropped the phone on the floor when the parts guy told me that.

You don't actually believe your going to get a non-bias answer to that question on a site dedicated to the Dodge Cummins do you?

IMO when it comes to the larger engines 12L and up Caterpillar all the way. The N14 Cummins was pretty good (better than the ISX) I like the little cummins 5.9 and possiably 6.7. I don't think the new Cat C7 with common rail injection will be bad if the emissions crap doesn't kill it. They both build good stuff and have both had their lemons but IMO a diesel engine is like a banana..........they're not any good until they turn yellow. But then again I'm also a little bias since all my Cats make me money and the only Cummins I have left has done nothing but cost me money.

 

I wouldn't want either engine with the new complicated electronics on there.

 

I'd stick with a Cummins in the Rams. But I also would like to see CAT get into the pickup market, as it would give Cummins good competition, as it will make Cummins strive to out do them, resulting in a better product. (Best Case Scenario.)

 

Although I think cat is the superior product I'd vote for the cummins because
I've already turned down "The road of knowledge" for it. I would'nt know a stinkin thing about a Cat........Wheres the fuel filter? In the oil pan, you say?.... Cummins has proven itself time & again for many years...It nips at the heels of Cat....
