Honestly - I'd rather have a minivan than an SUV any day of the week. I know I'm a bit strange here, but they are very nice as a family veichle, and they are rediculiously cheap to buy used.

But I have to admit that a european model with a 4 or small 6-cylinder turbodiesel would really be my choice. Please help me understand why this isn't offered here?

Because the American people are still uneducated about diesels in general. Half the people still think they are loud, smokey, inefficient motors. They would rather drive a big V8 gas guzzling vehicle rather than acknowledge that there are others options out there.

But on the subject of minivans, I've never been a fan of them. I know they can be had for cheap and they have good cargo capacity for what they are but gosh are they ugly. lol.

The wife and I went to look at the new '08 Honda Accord, looks more like an Acura now. Talking with the salesman and he said that in late '08 Honda will have the Accord with a "clean burn" turbocharged intercooled diesel!!!!!...
Saw under the hood of a Civic Hybrid..... not sure about that thing..... my jetskis have a bigger engine than that thing.
Then the wife found a CRV 4x4.... whatever floats her boat... the sooner she gets a new vehicle, the sooner my truck will quit smelling like perfume!!..

My wife likes her Sienna. Drives pretty good and the kids like the DVD and captain's chairs. So what, I still feel gay driving it!
