v8 cummins??????

With the new Cummins light duty V8 diesel.

"According to Automotive News, the Ram 1500’s V8 Cummins turbodiesel will have about 260-300 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque, with gas mileage is likely to be about 20 mpg city, 25 highway (compared with the Hemi's 13/17). Acceleration is about 1 second longer 0-60 (9.6 seconds rather than 8.6 seconds) and is good even by car standards. (Remember, that's mileage similar to the Sebring."

Anybody heard anything on this

ya, it's suppose to be out this coming fall ('09) model year to debut at the same time as the new D-max 4.5L. There was a writeup in diesel powermag a while back about it, but I don't have the link to the article handy.

indeed wreed, the other thing I've heard is that Cummins is designing the new small displacement V8 motor to the same durability requirements as their ISB. That's real good news, no whimpy blocks for me!!!

one can only hope for a V8 with the dependabilty, and efficiency, of a straight 6. With that said, I would love to have a half ton diesel, but would rather have an in-line than a V style engine. Cant believe they can pull that much HP and toque out of a smaller V8, cant wait to see it!!!

thats beep up there should be no v8 diesel to much rpm diesels dont like rpm . look at our tucks motor vary good but spins slower than the other v8 guys and u dont see them lasting as long as us. and how can that new v8 hav little less power and torque yet get more mpg then the new 6.7l cummins and the v8 has two extran pistons all diesel today hav beep mpg anyways. to me i think its dumb thats just me

Which issue? I'd like to read that.

I would definately NOT be one of the first 100,000 or so to buy one (not that I would buy a V8 diesel anyway).

hummm interesting article

ULSD (Ultra-Low Sulphur Diesel)
Anything over 15ppm sulphur content will ruin the new Cummins V-engines. It's a fact of life for any truck using piezo injectors and a DPF, but ULSD will be your only choiceat public pumps by the time trucks with these engines hit the streets. In fact, you may already be using ULSD-check the pump next time you fill up.

The "Old" Inline-Six?
We're sure there are a few people out there who are wary of these new V-engines and the effect they may have on the future of the venerable and beloved Cummins inline engine. Don't worry, the ISB will be A-OK, it will just displace 6.7L instead of 5.9L, will run on only ULSD, and will come with a DPF.
