V-10 diesel VW

I'd never heard of these, but I saw one at the pump today and talked to the owner. He said there were very few made. The owner was quick to tell me that he had twin turbos and more torque than a Viper He said it put out 550 ft/lbs and humbly agreed when I asked 300 hp. He said he bought it for towing and got 25-30 mpg empty.

I have failed to find anything on it on google, but it was called a Rogue. Probably the smallest thing I've ever seen a v-10 in. Dunno if it was a suv or a wagon or what, but it was only about chest high. Maybe some kind of Toureg or a distant cousin to the Cayenne?

Of course right after I post it,...

I figured it out. He rearranged the letters that *used* to say Touareg to say rouge. Clever guy.

The epa rates them at 23 mpg highway. I'm a big VW TDI fan, but when I read about this engine all I could think of was the cost of replacing 10 high pressure unit injectors . . . Just don't see much reason to need more than 6 cylinders for any engine.

My sister has a gas Toureg. I LIKE IT!

When those diesel Toureg V-10s first came out my first thought was "wonder how long it'll take until Nissan or Toyota signs an agreement with VW and sticks it in their full-sized trucks?".

Well, of course they haven't yet. Seems like a grand idea though...

I thought about buying my wife a diesel Toureg in early 2005. The VW dealer told us that they had been discontinued in the U.S. because of emissions. He also told us he could probably find us a used one for around 55K. It didn't take me long to rethink the whole Toureg V-10 idea.

Slightly off topic by my parents were looking at the Passat 2.0 TDI in 2005. I looked recently and they no longer offer the TDI. What is up with ditching the diesels in the states?

VW couldn't meet the emissions standards passed by the EPA.
They are working on it.
I will be looking for a 2005 or 2004 Passat when I get back.

I cant wait till the day Toyota brings over a Diesel.
Would be the next best thing compared to a Cummins.
The I6 is in my blood now but Toyota rocks.

I've seen a whole whoppin 2 of the V-10 diesels. I would love to have one.
I'm doing everything I can to convert all my cars to diesel.
I recently found a 84 Toyota PU with a 2.4 Diesel in it so I snatched that baby up tossed on a turbo and a bunch of gauges, hopefully be driving it soon.

The 2.4l diesels are definitely better than the 3.0l diesels in the Toyota line.

I actually got a chance to drive one of the twin turbo V10 Diesel VW's and let me tell you - she was awesome. That thing boost launches pretty dang good. It'll actually blow a little black color when you rev it!!!! At $68K it'd be really hard to mod that thing up.
