UT To Stop Sniffing Diesels

"Local diesel vehicles will no longer be subject to emissions testing in the new year. Advised by the Environmental Protection Agency that mandatory diesel testing is undesirable, Utah County commissioners recently repealed the tests as a prerequisite to register diesel vehicles."

"If you see black smoke coming out of diesel exhaust, that's primarily unburnt fuel and in that are some particulate matter," Alder explained. "It's more visible, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's more harmful."

It won't work for me now, either. I tried http://www.harktheherald.com , where it came from and it's down. Maybe it will work later. I'll keep trying and post the entire article when it comes back up.

Dang, I wish Salt Lake County would follow suit.

Utah County used to have the worst air in all of Utah, thanks to the Geneva Steel steel plant.
It shut down a number of years ago, and suddenly the air is much cleaner down there.

I like this statement ""If you see black smoke coming out of diesel exhaust, that's primarily unburnt fuel and in that are some particulate matter," Alder explained. "It's more visible, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's more harmful."

We don't have it here either. Makes up for the out of hand registration prices they charge these days. Governor elected in 02 claimed "no new taxes" so, since them he raised the MVA fees and now I get to pay $30.00 a year to be on own private septic system.

I hope they never start testing diesels here.

There was an article in the paper the other day saying the state wants to do away with the emmission tests here in Denver, we'll see

Wish they'd drop them here in Colorado Springs. $45 for a useless annual test that ANY truck can pass is a waste of time and money.

Was behind an older Chevy 12 passenger shortie diesel school bus that was pouring out a stream of thick black smoke while (slowly) pulling a hill on Woodman Rd.
But THEY don't have to pass emissions...

Missouri is doing away with the emission tests on the gassers. Didn't have one for the diesels.
