tread life: toyo open country a/t vs. m/t

im in the market for some new tire and i want the 285/75/17 and was wandering which tire would last longer, the toyo a/t or m/t. they will mainly be used on the highway, some gravel, little towing. thanks

I would think the more aggressive tread would wear faster.

I would assume the A/T would last longer with a less aggressive tread design.

I'm kinda starting to think about the next set of tires as well and while I love my Bridgestone Dueler AT Revo's...The fact that I can't get a load range E Revo in a 285 stinks! If anyone has had the Toyo A/T and the Bridgestone Revo how do they compare for those that tow alot?

I too am thinking ahead and want a tire that has more traction then the stock Michelin it came with. Oh it would also be nice to have one that has 10 plys in the tread an sidewall and not the 7 ply sidewall like the stock tire has.

I have almost 39k on my Toyo A/T's and they need to be replaced - I did not rotate them like I should have tho. I'm going to get the Toyo M/T's this time around because I like the more aggressive tread.

Toyo impressions.

I've got the 285-75-17 Toyo AT's w/23,000 miles on them. I bought them from a friend who never rebalanced/rotated them. They've worn real well and will go another safe 20,000 easy. Another friend has the MT's in this size and they look like they'll go 40,000 easy. He feels he'll replace them w/AT's next time. Not a lot of precipitation in this part of the world. Either one's a precision built tire requiring minimal lead to balance. I think Toyo offers a thirty day guarantee similiar to Bob Wagner's Smarty guarantee!

I got the Nitto Dura Grapplers - highway tread basically - 285/75/17 Load range E - with a 40K warranty. Pics are in my gallery, and here's a thread about the journey.... https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...d.php?t=214747
