If this happens...bye bye American sales!
And sooner or a later an over seas vehicle will have a diesel truck, more than likely i would say a 1/2ton first... and the "top trucks" will plummit to the bottom in a consumers eye.... with the great warrenty you get with over seas vehicles vs American vehicles.
Kinda bad to say..but just my opinion.

Yes, but it is a V8. Shor(er) stroke, higher revving. Ala other pickup truck diesels. Not an I-6.

I dunno why people don't think Toyota can't make a good <diesel> truck. They build trucks for lots of other markets, like Australia, etc. They aren't trucks like we think of trucks, but they also build 3 and 5 ton trucks. Hey, they build fork lifts and Lexus' so I am sure they will sooner or later figure out HD trucks.

I had one of Toyota's '81 4banger diesel PU's... I loved that little truck.. Wished I still had it... It was too little though... Definitely a 2 seater and I needed a bigger cab after I married. Great mileage,~31-35mpg, but not near enough power for today's buyer..
It had a Toyota manufactured 1.9L I-4 NA forklift engine in it and it had some interesting problems running 75+mph for hours on end
.. Nothing a breather reroute didn't fix 
. DieselKiki injection system, absolutely NO fuel problems...
If Toyota sees they can play in the diesel PU market, they'll likely make a good 'un... Toyota did it once, they can do it again...

Almost all of this market share increase came from Dodge, the weakest player in the space with an engine/transmission combo that just doesn't measure up to superior Ford and GM diesel powertrains.
Our trany might not be the best buy our engine is the best on the market.

I liked how they pointed out that Ford may end up being the only US built HD! Has Ford decided to move from Mexico, back to the US? 
The Chevy/GMC is just as much US as Ford is, and they are all built right here in the US!
