tonnage rating question

this may be dumb, but oh well. since my truck is a 3/4 i would assume that it is rated to carry 1500 pounds in the bed. well the other day i picked up ~3000 pounds of concrete for my dad. it squatted the truck about 2 inches and was close to the overloads, but not on them. also, i did not notice any huge difference while driving. acceleration seamed normal, granted it wasnt a full throttle assault. i guess my question is does the 3/4 ton or 1 ton relate to the approximate weight rating you can carry?

on a side note, i am thinking harder at leveling kit. it looked pretty darn good leveled out.

I think all the 1/2 ton, 3/4 ton, 1 ton is an old measure used "back in the day." It used to be expressed as the capacities of the trucks, but as the years have gone by the rating have gone up, but the names have remained the same......[BillyMadisonVoiceOn]or sumthin' like that[BillyMadisonVoiceOff]

I had a card in mine (I threw it out) saying the weight limit for the shot box bed was 2250 lbs IIRC and a paper that said it was not recommend to use a slid in camper on my truck as it could cause over weight problems.
