"TOM Candidates"

New Truck Of the Month Procedure for 2008

The DTR TOM Staff has come up with a new procedure for choosing the TOM candidates.

* Starting Dec. 1st, 2007, we will post a thread with the winner for this month’s poll in the General Diesel Discussion section of the forums.

* At the same time, we will post a “TOM Candidate” thread in the same forum. In this thread we will announce the category of trucks that will be accepted as possible candidates. (1st Gen 250, 350, 2nd Gen 2500, 3500, 3rd Gen 2500, 3500, MegaCab, etc.)

* If your truck falls into the chosen category for that month and you would like to have a chance to be in the poll, then you can nominate your truck by posting a picture from your gallery in that thread.
* NOTE: The picture MUST come from your Diesel Truck Resource Member Photo Gallery! (Anything else will be deleted.)

* You can also list some of the mods and accessories on your rig in the same post. Please post only once in that thread because the TOM committee will select three trucks from that thread to be in the poll. The process for selecting the three candidates from this thread will be completely at random. If your truck is not selected for the poll, you may nominate it again when your category comes back around.

* Previous Winners of the TOM will not be eligible to participate. (Previous Winner being defined as truck and/or DTR member.)

* The “TOM Candidate” thread will be open from the 1st of the month until the 14th of the month. That gives you two weeks to submit your truck.

* At this time it will be locked, the three poll candidates will be chosen at random and the poll will be posted on the 15th . The poll will be voted on until the end of the month and we start all over again on the 1st of the next month by posting the winner in one thread and posting the “TOM Candidate” thread for the next month's category.

*Click on the attached image below and it shows the BB Code to use when you select your picture.

Just a quick comment if I may. On the 3rd gens there are 2500 and SRW 3500 trucks that are identical in every way except for some overload springs that aren't even visible. And then there are 3500 duallys.

          On 1st and 2nd gens....if it is a 3500......it is a dually. Not so with 3rd gens.

Just a suggestion that you may want to call it a SRW or Dually as an option instead of a 2500/3500.

I was thinking that by keeping the 2500 and the 3500 SRW in different categories, it would give us one more seperate category. We would really like to come up with as many seperate categories as possible. I think this would make for more of a chance at being a candidate. We might even kick around the idea of even more seperation like shortbed / longbed / flatbed / standard cab / trucks with trailers-(GN-5er-Tag-CarHauler-Livestock) / CTD Conversions / etc. / etc. / etc.

If the category next month was 3rd Gen, 2500/3500 SRW as you suggested, and you wanted to nominate your truck,,,,, your truck would have to compete not only with the 3500 SRW,,,, but all the 2500s also.

I do agree with you about having as many categories as possible. However, I still disagree about separating the 2500 and 3500 SRW 3rd gens because they are so close in "looks" that you could'nt tell them apart if you didn't know what to look for and were looking under the bed of the truck. There is just no visible difference in them.

I do agree about long bed/short bed/flat bed/ 2wd/4wd....all the other possible categories that create a "visible" difference between the trucks.

And, I appreciate you making this available and this format should work pretty well, IMO.

It's your call. Regardless, I appreciate all the hard work you have put into this every month for the past however many years!

That is not 100% true I have seen quite a few 1st and 2nd Gen 350/3500's that are SWR. I have a 89 W350 SWR. Just my .02

Ok Thanks, I stand corrected. I didn't know that 1st and 2nd gens had both 350/3500 trucks that were NOT duallys. IF that is the case....then apply what im suggesting to those trucks too. Make it either Dually or NON-Dually. Not the listing 2500/3500 as the qualifier.
