Don't know the Cabelas...never even heard their bumpers mentioned here?
I agree frt can be the killer. Also, heavy steel adds to already heavy frt end weight. I prefer Aluminum, which, contrary to many opinions, can be as strong as steel, and easier to repair minor dings. Weight = about 1/2 as much.
Lane Wright, at Denver Off Road, makes a great, 1/2" aluminum bumper...powder coated black. See Phox Mulders pic...here https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...er+road+bumper

Not that far. As Moose10 said above..."it might be worth a trip down there"?
He also carries the Austrailian "UTE", that I picked up from him.

Ranch Hand's are very stout, IMO. If you want to drive to Northern Texas...I can point you to a great dealer.

Almost any welding shop down there will have them

here is your problem though, they have many for second gens as well, BUT your gonna need to look harder for them (if u have a second gen) Because many of the welding shops down there make them, ppl buy them by the trailerful and take them away up north i guess. it is not uncommon to see trailers full of full replacement bumpers down here.. to those who want one.. i know... tempting hehehehehehe

Ill see if i can root up any names, my dad is a welder, he USUALLY makes me my accessories, but since my ram came with them, that was a no go.....

Personal preference, I guess....but, IMO, those are some of the nicest steel bumpers I have seen. Good price and free install, too!

i live in Cuauhtemoc, Chihuahua, MEXICO!, about 60 km from where the bumpers are made, They are made very good and though, u can see a picture of it on the image next to my name,

the full front replacement bumper, here at the factory costs $480.00 and the rear about $250.00 a friend of mine, shippes them to Seminole Texas then, where they get the name "western depot, truck accesories" and are a lot more expensive...

Ok here in Mexico he does not need to be registred, so he has no name, and he sells no brand, but they say they are better made then the "ranch hand"
they fit well on the truck and are powder coated...

but we make our own, which is even a lil cheaper

I have the Road Armor bumpers on the front and rear of my 04 Ram.
The frame is plenty strong as it is a hydroformed frame that is different from the 2 gen Ram frame.

I think ANY of these steel bumpers would be good Bambi Guards.

I was told by my insurance company that my truck would have been totaled if I had the factory bumper on when a kid ran across in front of me this past Feb. The bumper was toast...bent like a banana but it saved the truck...it did not even allow the impact to set off the air bags or hit the radiator/intercooler of inner fenders. totalled the 02 Van. Whoops. No injuries.

I also encountered an Antelope this summer...caught it on the outer right corner of the bumper. I only have a few scratches on that outer edge and no other damage to speak of.

By looking at all the bumpers, I see that they are all well built. The more design and work that goes into one of these, the more it will cost.
I do prefer the K.I.S.S. routine though and perhaps will look at different ones on the next truck. Theres a lot of different pieces that go into a front Road Armor bumper.

just wondering what you paid for the mexican bumper up there in TX??? is it does it come from western depot, or do you even live in seminole?

one of the first thing we put on to each of our trucks after buying them...

check these bumpers out, they're not made out of pipe, but plate and structural tubing, www.dixiemfg.com ,trust me, they can and have survived many deer and some cattle....
