Talked to a PSD owner

I stopped after work today to fuel up at my usual station and a a guy in a 99 or newer 7.3 PSD F350 dually pulls up next to me and start fueling. while his truck was fueling he started to walk around my truck and towards me. He asked what year my truck was and if I liked it alot. I had to tell him its the best truck I have ever owned. Then the guy started telling me how he use to have a 94 dodge cummins that was nothing but a problem, the engine was fine but it had 7 transmissions put in it in 100,000 miles. I find it kinda hard to believe but you never know. I asked what kind of mileage he get in his truck and he said that it gets 12 mpg, city, towing, loaded, or on the highway. Its all stock. He asked what I got, and when I told hime that on the highway I get about 20 mpg, he said he couldn't believe it. That made me feel really good about owning my truck and not owning a PSD. I'm not trying to dog the PSD but after hearing what that guy got for mileage I would not want one, but he also looked like the kind of person that didn't maintain or take care of their truck really well. I got done fueling up before he did, and when pulling out onthe highway, I let him hear what a cummins sounded w/ a 4in straight pipe, and got a thumbs up from him.

The funny thing is, you never can tell if people are being honest or not. They will say almost anything to brighten their situation.

The funniest thing I ever seen while fueling up was a older gentleman next to me fueling up his Dmax, it looked to be a 03-04. We got to chattin back and forth about mileage and what not. Well he was explaining to me about how his truck got 25mpg on the highway, and about the time I laughed at him his tank topped all the way off and he lost a good 2-3 gallons of fuel out of his tank. I mean it literally shot out nearly splashing me. He turned beat red but it was classic. He must of lost a good $10 in fuel

Yea I don't think it was one of those big rig pumps that barely fit in my fill neck. But what I was baffled about was this. On my 03 when it gets to a certin fill point it will stop the fuel from pumping until you hit the handle again. His just keep filling until it started pouring out.

That's more a problem with the service station fuel pump than his truck. The handles are supposed to have automatic shut off's on them as we all know and love...

I see quite a few PSD w/ straightpipes on them or their some kind of an aftermarket exaust. But I honestly hate how they sound(from the outside of the truck anyways). I hear them fly by my house on the interstate and it literally sounds like a flat tire flopping down the road. I dunno if it's the V8 and the exaust's note combined or what, but it sounds

Ok, I guess they sound so bad I haven't noticed. The 5.9's sure sound good.

When I fill up my tank, and I mean fill it up to where you can see the fuel there is a point where the pump stops by it's self, I then have to manualy hold down the handle to top it off all the way. My guess is, the guy reached he point where it stopped by its self then he set the handle to fill by it's self and forgot to watch it when it got to the top. Which caused his fuel to spew out.

Either way it sucks cause diesel was $2.77 a gallon, and im sure he lost at least 2-3 before he could stop the pump.

Yea the 5.9's do sound good, well in some cases that i've heard. I think the 6 cylinders on a diesel is just the right choice for straightpipes. I've only heard the exaust note on 1 Duramax, it was a 500hp truck w/ a Hearthroab exaust, it sounded amazing.

They sound like a cross between a dying helicopter and a flat tire! A freinds 7.3 is straight piped and it sounds like you know what. Although the 7.3 aren't as horrible sounding as the 6.0 PSDs.

I actually think the V8's sound pretty good with the right exhaust system.
